Gun Violence Prevention – An Advocacy Workshop
At this interactive workshop participants will be equipped with the basic information about the problem of gun violence, learn about opportunities for involvement in this issue, and acquire the communication skills necessary to engage in effective advocacy.
Gun violence is a pervasive negative influence in America today, stealing lives, devastating families, oppressing communities, and costing Minnesota over $2 billion every year. Although many people are intimidated by this subject, this presentation will equip participants to confidently lead the conversation about gun violence and how it can be prevented through common sense public health solutions. This interactive event will be led by Rev. Nancy Nord Bence, an ordained Lutheran pastor who felt called to join the gun reform movement after officiating at six funerals for gun violence victims. She now serves as Executive Director of Protect Minnesota, the only independent, state-based gun violence prevention organization in Minnesota. Protect Minnesota promotes a culture of health and safety for all Minnesotans by reducing gun deaths and injuries through education, organization and advocacy.
