This fall's Civic Buzz season will begin with a focus on two of the charter amendment proposals Minneapolis voters will see on their ballots. Improving governance in Minneapolis has been a decades-long goal of LWVMpls, which is supporting the Government Structure: Executive Mayor-Legislative Council amendment.

Join us to learn all about it. Everyone is welcome!

Learn about the LWVMpls-supported Government Structure: Executive Mayor-Legislative Council proposed charter amendment. LWVMpls members Patricia Kovel-Jarboe and Catherine Shreves will present a program on this proposal put forward by the Minneapolis Charter Commission.

Improving governance in Minneapolis has been a decades-long goal of LWVMpls, and this proposed amendment is an important first step toward its achievement.

  • Hear about the 14-boss Minneapolis problem and some of the dysfunction the current system creates.
  • Learn how the proposed amendment solves this and will allow Minneapolis to become a more safe, just, and well-managed city.

Our presenters, both long-time LWVMpls members, are passionate about this opportunity to help Minneapolis live up to its potential with a balanced form of government like that of other large cities and our state and federal governments.

Patricia Kovel-Jarboe, now retired, was an administrator and faculty member (Communication Studies) at the University of Minnesota. She also worked with nonprofit organizations as a consultant on team building and strategic planning. Patricia served on the Minneapolis Ethical Practices Board for ten years, several years as chair. As a League member, she has served as co-president and led and/or participated in several studies.

Catherine Shreves has been a lawyer and civic activist in Minneapolis for 35 years. Her legal work focused on tax, business and estate planning. Her civic work has included chairing the Minneapolis Charter Commission, chairing the Minneapolis School Board, chairing a citizen advisory committee for the Park Board’s Chain of Lake Renovations, and serving as president of the LWVMpls.
