LWVMpls members and friends met on June 7 at the Folwell Park Recreation Center. Mayor Jacob Frey, shared how his vision for the city is evolving in these early months of his term and took questions from those attending. The Bess Mlnarik award was presented to Jennifer Johnson and 50 year members were acknowledged. After a lively discussion, the Positions in Brief were modified to reflect “our support of legislation and public policies to reduce gun violence” rather than the narrower focus on handguns. The 1983 study itself address reduction of violence and unfortunately, automatic weapons and other weapons have been more in the news recently. The new language more accurately reflects our position without conducting an entirely new study. See our Program for Action for the original study language.
